What is the Smithsonian Institution?
The Smithsonian Institution is dedicated to the "increase and diffusion of knowledge." This is done through a wide array of disciplines, all focused on shaping the future by preserving the past. To share knowledge with as many people and future innovators as possible, admission is free to all Smithsonian museums and The National Zoo.
What is there to see?
It's best to choose a museum or 2 a day, as there is so much to see throughout the sprawling Smithsonian network. The most popular are the National Museum of Natural History, with reconstructed dinosaur skeletons, and the National Air and Space Museum, with its preserved aircraft, spacecraft, missiles, and rockets.
